Story Veda Vyas Murthy (Dr. Brahmanandam), a retired AIR employee, considers embarking on a new career as a writer. As a result, he enters a storytelling contest, with the winner receiving a publishing contract. Veda Vyas tells five stories with the theme of the five senses. The themes of Sight, Hearing, Smell, Touch, and Smell are explained with real-life scenarios.

Key Positives The film’s overall outlook is positive, and the concept of telling stories by connecting them to human senses is admirable. The dialogue is well-written and has depth. Through this story, the filmmaker attempts to convey the message that knowing oneself is more important before entering into a marriage, which is well articulated. There are a few subtle emotions that are well-portrayed, and the film has a few good moments here and there. Brahmanandam did a good job as the narrator, and it was interesting to see the legendary actor in a non-comedic role.

Negatives Though the main idea is intriguing, the film isn’t entirely engaging. A few stories had more depth but were only shown on the surface, leaving them unimpressive. The film’s pace is a little slow, and it becomes tedious at times. Because there are no commercial aspects to the film, it may not appeal to the general public.

Verdict Panchathantram, as a whole, caters to a specific audience. The performances and a couple of stories leave an impression. However, the film’s length and a few jarring stories limit its impact. Those who enjoy anthologies should give it a shot, but others may not enjoy it.
